Chester is one of the oldest towns in the state of New Hampshire. The town consists of approximately 26 square miles and lies in the Rockingham County district. The name Chester is suspected to have derived by settlers from Chester, the county town in Chesire England. The town offers Chester Academy, a public school for elementary and middle schools students. Pinkerton Academy located in Derry contracts with Chester and nearby towns for high school students.
